Inter Miami ace Lionel Messi is one of the greatest football players ever. From his young days in Barcelona colors to his living-legend status in the MLS, he has stunned the world with his eye-catching game and goalscoring ability. However, one of the reasons behind his incredible longevity is his cleverness. When you are as great as Messi, you feel that you are playing football like chess, where you are two steps ahead already.

However, in the game against Nashville, there was an occasion where the MLS referee was one step ahead of him. We all know the Argentine legend's prowess when it comes to free-kicks. Messi has scored sensational goals from the spot kick from almost every dimension in the advanced areas. However, there was a moment before Inter Miami's free-kick, which everyone spotted, including the MLS referee.

Messi was trying to place the ball in his free-kick zone on the right-hand side. However, the referee came to him and told the former Barcelona man to place the ball slightly towards the right. Before the MLS referee was about to blow the whistle for the free kick to be taken, he saw Messi placing the ball virtually in the same place as before. He returned and told Messi to put it back where he told him to, and the Argentine angrily placed the ball on the ground where the MLS referee intended.

We don't like to believe in conspiracy theories, but that might have led to Messi missing that free-kick. It was a frustrating night for the Argentine and Inter Miami as they were held to a 0-0 draw with Nashville.
