The NBA may be dealing with quite a bothersome situation when they head back for the second half of the 2020-21 NBA season. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst revealed on his Hoop Collective podcast that roughly 150 NBA players went over to Miami during All-Star Weekend, which is certainly notable given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Via Bleacher Report:

“And the reason the NBA knows is because the players have to have COVID tests while they’re there and they had to sign up for them. So the NBA had an accurate count of how many and … this was two days ago, maybe it’s grown, I was told it was in the neighborhood of 150 players were in Miami over the weekend. The testing site, which I think, I don’t know for sure, but I think was at the Heat’s facility, I mean that’s where their apparatus is set up. They had to give the players a schedule. Like, it was drive-thru and they had to have multiple lanes and they had to give the players a schedule, like come at this time to get your COVID test, because otherwise they couldn’t handle the crush.”

Yikes. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is probably pulling his hair out right now. Oh, wait.

Kidding aside, the commissioner certainly didn’t envision this as the ideal scenario heading to the post-All-Star portion of the season.

Much like everyone around the world, the NBA is still dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. The NBA found itself in quite a bit of a stir after several NBA stars, including Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, expressed disapproval of the league holding an All-Star Game given the situation.

The NBA did have strict measures in place for the All-Stars and participants during the weekend, and they clearly expected some players to travel during this break. But this many players in Miami at once? Maybe not.

Let’s cross our fingers there’s no outbreak to start this second half.
