The Golden State Warriors have officially made their announcement about Kevin Durant's Achilles injury and subsequent operation.

In a statement posted on their official Twitter account, the Warriors said that Durant underwent surgery on Wednesday night at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. He is now recovering well from the successful procedure performed by Dr. Martin O'Malley.

Earlier on Wednesday, Durant confirmed through an Instagram post that he suffered a ruptured Achilles and underwent successful surgery. While he received an outpouring of support, there are also some people who questioned why the Dubs didn't make the announcement.

Succeeding reports noted that the Warriors already knew of Durant's injury before KD's IG post. However, the team reportedly respected Durant's request to make the announcement himself.

Durant suffered the injury in the second quarter of Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. He was coming off a month-long absence due to a calf strain but forced his way to return after seeing the Warriors struggle without him.

There were debates about the Warriors' decision to play Durant in Game 5, though the two-time NBA champion insisted that he really wanted to play the game to help his team extend the series against the Toronto Raptors.
