Over a crazy summer, the Brooklyn Nets definitely stand out as one of the teams that significantly improved their chances at an NBA title in the next few years.

Being a Brooklyn native himself, Hall of Famer Chris Mullin could not be more pleased at how things turned out for his home team. According to the former five-time All-Star swingman, the arrival of Kevin Durant will definitely have a tremendous impact on the squad moving forward:

“First and foremost, you wish him a full recovery from his injury,” said Mullin, via Robert Lopez of The Athletic. “I think from there, my personal opinion, he’ll go back to the list of the top players in the league. What he did out in Golden State was incredible. He did as much in three years as people do in their whole life. Three Finals, two Finals MVPs. And then he was a free agent, so it was his decision. I think he’s gonna do just fine.

“But like I said, the main first step is getting healthy. And then I think Brooklyn is gonna benefit greatly.”

Mullin went on to say that he believes a lot of credit must be given to the folks in the Nets' front office for the wonderful job they've done to completely turn this franchise around:

“And I think Sean Marks and Kenny Atkinson have done a great job just being patient and really just emphasizing the game of basketball: practice, hard work, fundamentals, skill development,” he added.
“They got fortunate. They had a great summer and I think they did it the right way. They had no draft picks to speak of and they got a few guys off really just the… ya know…”

Unfortunately, Durant is not expected to figure significantly in Brooklyn's plans next season as he recovers form a gruesome Achilles injury.

However, Durant is expected to make a full recovery, and with him in the mix, we can definitely consider the Nets to be a serious contender for the NBA title in the near future. Mullin thinks Durant and Kyrie Irving will make for “a dynamic duo” in Brooklyn, and it will be fun to see them finally play together, whenever that may be.
