Kevin McHale — who was part of the Boston Celtics dynasty in the 80s — believes that the Denver Nuggets and the Portland Trail Blazers have the potential to be the NBA's next dynasty.

Based on his experience and observation, dynasties last for four or five years at most. Given this, the Golden State Warriors, who have won three championships in the last four years, are about to reach their saturation point. For McHale, the young Nuggets and Blazers squad may take the crown once the Warriors' reign ends.

“Believe me when I tell you, because I’ve been involved with it — these dynasties that are going to ‘last forever’ don’t,” McHale told Sean Keeler of the Denver Post.

“Golden State may be on their last legs and then, who’s next? I mean, you look at the Denver Nuggets, and Portland’s a young team. So, for me, this is kind of a series of maybe (who’s) next up into the (category) ‘dynasty-that’s-going-to-last-forever,’ which is four or five years at the most. These guys are going to be fighting for that, so they’re interesting on a lot of different levels. Plus, (the Nuggets) are growing and getting better.”

The Nuggets have a legitimate All-Star in Nikola Jokic, and his partnership with Jamal Murray has brought Denver to another level. Finishing as the second seed in the tough Western Conference — after a season that they missed the playoffs — is enough proof they are a team on the rise.

Portland, meanwhile, is proving they have what it takes to be contenders. Damian Lillard has developed into an admirable leader for the Blazers, and with just a few solid additions, they could be contending for NBA championships as well.

Whether Kevin McHale's forecast will turn out to be true is a matter of wait-and-see. Though some may raise their eyebrows on his bold prediction, as he said, he's been part of a dynasty. He knows what it takes to reach that level.
