The NBA continues Sunday with this interconference matchup! It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Clippers-Hornets prediction and pick.

The Los Angeles Clippers are playing better than many expected with the roster they currently have. They are (25-26) on the season but everyone expected them to tank without Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Instead, they are hanging in games and beating good teams. They had won two straight until losing to the Miami Heat Friday night 121-114. The Charlotte Hornets are (28-22) which is good for the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference. They are coming off a 3-point victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Why The Clippers Could Cover The Spread

The Clippers will need to play very well to cover this spread. The Hornets are a very good offensive team and they can shoot the lights out on any given night. The Clippers still play very good defense and so that is what it will take to cover this spread. They must defend LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges and not allow them to get hot. Gordon Hayward will be out due to covid-19 and Kelly Oubre Jr. is out with an ankle injury. That is good news for the Clippers because this Hornets team has a lot of depth. Without that depth, it will be tougher for the Hornets to play as well as they have been. LA is (5-5) in their last 10 games and (10-14) in road games. Charlotte is (14-7) at home this season and are (7-3) in their last 10 games.

Why The Hornets Could Cover The Spread

These two teams meet for the second time this year. Back when the Clippers had PG available, they defeated the Hornets 120-106. Now that George is out, It's expected that the Hornets will be the better team in this one. You can never count out the Clippers, however, because they have proven to stay in games. They have a 23-36 record against the spread this season which is not horrible. It's just that the Hornets are one of the better teams in the league at covering with a 29-19 record ATS. The Hornets will need to do a good job of defending the three and making sure the Clippers' defense doesn't get the best of them. Luke Kennard shooting 44% from beyond the arc and it looks like he will be participating in the three-point contest. The Hornets can't let the Clippers beat them at their own game tonight.

I'm taking the Hornets to cover this spread at home. It's big enough to where LA could cover with a close game, but I expect the Hornets to win by at least six points.
