So far in the 2021-22 NBA season, the Minnesota Timberwolves have themselves in the postseason picture with a 27-25 record with just 30 games left. The Timberwolves have been lead by All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns, veteran D’Angelo Russell, and second-year star guard, Anthony Edwards. The team is still hoping to add a fourth-star player to their team, however, and one player that has caught their attention is Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers. As much as Minnesota may like Simmons, though, they do not want to disrupt their future by trading away draft picks and that is exactly what Philadelphia 76ers general manager Daryl Morey is asking for in return for Simmons.

According to The Athletic, Minnesota has indicated an openness to discussing a package that includes Simmons and Sixers forward Tobias Harris, but their best offer to Philadelphia most likely includes Russell and second-round picks instead of the unprotected first-rounders that Philadelphia is asking for. As mentioned in the tweet above, that is a huge gap in the valuation of Simmons. The Timberwolves see him as a player that is a liability because of his huge contract and therefore would not want to pay too much for him. The Sixers currently see him as not just an asset, but as one of the hottest commodities in the NBA. That is very good negotiation skills from the Sixers, but after a while, you have to realize that your bluffs aren't going to work and cash out what you have before it is too late. That time comes in less than a week, at the NBA's 2022 trade deadline.
