DeMar DeRozan put on his superhero cape once again to save the Chicago Bulls, this time against the San Antonio Spurs. The veteran guard exploded for 40 points in the contest, convincing his teammate Zach LaVine that he should win MVP.
LaVine, who is out until after the All-Star break due to a swelling in his knee, immediately took to Twitter to share his MVP endorsement for DeRozan after leading the Bulls to a 120-109 win. With Chicago behind San Antonio by six points entering the final quarter, DeRozan took over and scored 19 of his 40 pieces in the period to turn things around and propel the team to victory.
MVP @DeMar_DeRozan ‼️

It is not the first time DeMar DeRozan has saved the Bulls from the verge of defeat, and there is no doubt he has as good as a case as the other candidates to win it. While DeRozan is overshadowed by the likes of Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic, he could certainly strengthen his case by leading Chicago to the no. 1 seed in the East.
With Zach LaVine also out for some time, the stage is set for the 32-year-old to climb his way in the MVP ladder.
LaVine, for his part, will surely be cheering for his Bulls teammate as DeRozan carries the scoring load for his team with his backcourt partner still recovering.
