The Dallas Mavericks are fast emerging as one of the most intriguing players in free agency. That will continue to be the case especially after Adrian Wojnarowski said that Dallas is an intriguing destination for soon-to-be free agent center DeMarcus Cousins.
Woj says the Dallas Mavericks will be a team to watch on DeMarcus Cousins this offseason. They have interest in him and he believes their draft could dictate their approach on Cousins. pic.twitter.com/TvZW6kS45d

Article Continues Below“Dallas will be an interesting place for Cousins. They have tried to get Dwight Howard in free agency, DeAndre Jordan, missed on those players. They have chance now with Cousins. They have an interest in Cousins, and what happens on draft night will, I think, factor into that. Do they take a Mo Bamba at No. 5 in Dallas and say ‘that’s our center of the future? Or do they end up with more of a perimeter player, and then go into free agency after Cousins.”
As noted by Wojnarowski, Dallas holds the No. 5 pick, which puts them in a position to get a top-tier big man prospect like Bamba. But what happens if Bamba gets taken before the Mavs’ turn to pick?
Cousins to Dallas makes sense since the Mavericks have a slim frontcourt that was mostly anchored last season by the likes of Salah Mejri, Dwight Powell, Dirk Nowitzki, and Maxi Kleber, none of which were a great presence down low. Also, both Mejri and Nerlens Noel are set to become free agents, and the Mavericks might not be interested in bringing the two back.
Cousins is on currently on a deal that will expire this summer. He suffered a season-ending injury last January, putting some dent on his free agency stock. Still, Cousins is certainly going to be among the most sought-after free agents.
