The Dallas Mavericks have added another international player to their fold, as the team has worked out a two-year deal with forward Ryan Broekhoff, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports

Broekhoff’s name isn’t exactly one that’s recognized across the league. Even hardcore basketball fans may struggle to remember where and when they heard of Broekhoff prior to his report– if they did at all.

Broekhoff is from Australia, but he’s very familiar of the basketball environment in the United States, having played four years for the Valparaiso Crusaders from the 2009-10 season to the 2012-13 campaign.

After using up his eligibility in college, he declared for the 2013 NBA Draft, but did not get to hear his name called. He then moved overseas to ply his trade. He suited up for Beşiktaş Integral Forex for two years before finding his way back to NBA radars by appearing in the 2015 NBA Summer League with the Denver Nuggets. After that, he hopped on a plane and crossed the Atlantic again, signing a three-year deal to play for the Russian professional team, PBC Lokomotiv Kuban. Last season, he averaged 8.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 16 games for Lokomotiv Kuban in the VTB United League in Russia.

Broekhoff, who will turn 28 this coming August, stands 6-foot-7 and owns a deft touch from the outside. He shot 46.0 percent from distance last season in the aforementioned VTB United League and in his four years in Valparaiso, he connected on 1.9 of his 4.6 3-point attempts per game (40.8 percent).
