The Golden State Warriors don’t have a three-headed monster. They have a four-headed one. While the defending NBA champions brandish a deadly offensive trio of Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Klay Thompson, Draymond Green is viewed as the glue that holds the team together.

For New Orleans Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry, Green is also the force behind the great things Golden State does. By way of Melissa Rohn:

Alvin Gentry on Draymond Green: “He's the guy that fuels the whole thing. Obviously, Steph and KD are great players. But the assists and the rebounds and just the playmaking that he has really is kind of the backbone of who they really are.”

Gentry is right, though. What he said is not particularly a hot take anymore. Green is definitely a huge factor for the Warriors in these playoffs in which he is averaging a near triple-double of 13.3 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game.

Alvin Gentry also had a first-hand look at how problematic Green can be for opposing head coaches after the do-it-all forward scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out 12 assists in Game 2.

It helps Green a lot that he is surrounded by some of the best scorers in the NBA today, but it’s also up to him how he’ll use his talents to co-exist with such a group of talented teammates. Green will do almost anything if it meant helping his team get even the slightest of edges in games.

As a former part of the Warriors’ coaching staff, Gentry certainly has a full grasp of what Green is capable of doing on the court.
