It’s already known that Stephen Curry has a shooting ability that is far and above anyone in the NBA. Now, analytics suggest that a 30-foot shot from Curry might be more efficient than a layup.

In a recent story about the guard from the San Francisco Chronicle, Curry’s deep shot was dissected a bit, and it was found to be extremely fruitful for him. Currently, Curry is averaging 1.5 points per shot attempt from 30-34 feet, but just 1.3 points per attempt from within 5 feet of the rim.

While these numbers are obviously bonkers, it just goes to show how special Curry is. Over the past four seasons, Curry is shooting 48.3 percent from 30-34 feet, and 50 percent from there this season. Compared to the rest of the league, Curry’s stats are almost out of this world, as the NBA as a whole is shooting under 22 percent from 30-34 feet.

According to Stephen Curry, this ability came from him simply being bored in 2011, when the NBA was in a lockout. The star shooting was testing the limits of his jumper and found out that he was able to knock down shots from much farther away than most. “You kind of just stumble upon it,” Curry said on Wednesday.

“We kind of do expect him to make everything,” head coach Steve Kerr said about the shots. “The step-back the other night just before half (against Indiana), that was beyond 30 feet. I think it was 33, 34 feet. I just turned to (assistant coach) Mike (Brown) and said, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me.’
