Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is quite amused by the overreaction that followed a 127-101 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas Day, finding it “funny” that so much was made of a regular-season loss to a team they will see three more times this season:

“It's funny, real funny,” said Green. “It's a compliment, though. Everyone expects us to be way above everybody, but right now, we're not. It doesn't mean that we won't be, but right now we're not. But that's kind of what everybody is going to expect, so it's a compliment, but it's still funny.”

The margin for error is slim in the West, more than ever, with only four games separating the conference-leading Warriors to the eighth-seeded San Antonio Spurs. Two teams above the .500 mark (Memphis Grizzlies and Sacramento Kings) now find themselves out of the playoffs, but could swiftly find themselves in after a day's slate of games.

Despite the loss to the Lakers, the Warriors find themselves in first place after the Denver Nuggets and Oklahoma City Thunder both lost two games in a row, putting them half a game and a full game behind the defending champs, respectively.

“It's game 30 … 2 or 3 or 4 or 5, or whatever it is, it's not the end of the world, but it's entertaining to watch,” said Green when asked about his thoughts on a tightly contested Western Conference race.

The Warriors have won seven of their last 10 games and have plenty of West showdowns to come, starting Thursday against the Portland Trail Blazers.
