Draymond Green is not looking past this 2018-19 season when it comes to Kevin Durant, seemingly not as worried as the rest of the fans and media on a potential departure. Durant is coming off his third straight summer signing a one-and-one deal with the Golden State Warriors, which once again has fanned the rumors of his impending departure.

“I don’t think about it like that,” Green told Tim Kawakami of The Athletic when I asked if he’s wondering if Durant might leave after this season. “Also, I know I studied the business side of the league. I don’t just go play and say maybe my agent will figure it out or anything like that, like I studied the business side.

“I could be reading it wrong. And if I am, I am. But me knowing the business side of things, I understand what he did. And we’ll see where it all ends up. But like I said we’re not going to enter this season saying K signed a one-year deal, what’s next?

“What’s next is this next year. How we gonna approach this year? How we going to get to this year? How good will we be; will we three-peat? That’s what’s next.”

Durant has done what every other player able to take control of his future has so far, the same as teammate DeMarcus Cousins and others able to become free agents in 2019, when the cap will be much friendlier to teams looking for talent.

He would join Anthony Davis, Jimmy Butler, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, and teammate Klay Thompson in a regal free agent class that could get him paid big-time after leaving money on the table during his first two years.

The Warriors' fragile luxury tax is susceptible to change marginally every year, especially with players like Thompson and Green commanding long-term deals in 2019 and 2020, respectively. Durant is playing the safe side, letting the situations unfold before making a decision on his playing future.
