Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors are entering the 2018-19 NBA season with big expectations once again. As usual, they are viewed as the favorites to win the NBA Finals. That has been the case for the last two years and fans of every other team are beginning to get sick of them.

Last season wasn't easy for the Warriors though, and Green opened up about the struggles and how the season felt like it dragged on in an interview with the Mercury News.

“Just the whole year was a grind,” Green said. “Stuff wasn’t as fresh as it was the year before.”

“This is going to sound bad, but there was really nothing for us to work on. Nothing to make work. It was like ‘Oh we know what we’re doing. We played together. We know how good we are. Let’s just go play.’ It was really nothing to work toward. We knew the whole year we were just trying to get to April and then May and June. But there was nothing to spark that fire. So it made everything a drag. As much as this is an amazing job we have, as much as you love that job, if you don’t have a fire lit under you or motivating you to do something in your line of work, it’s not going to be as easy.”

Despite the fact that the season felt extra long for Green, he was still able to continue stuffing the stat sheet for the Warriors. In the 70 games that he played last season,  Green ended up averaging 11.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. He shot 45.4 percent from the field overall and knocked down 30.1 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Golden State may have better players, but Green is quite possibly the most important. Very few players in the NBA can impact a game like Green is capable of doing.

Expect to see the Warriors dominate once again this season. Green is likely in for another long season, but if they play to their full potential, he will have another ring.
