The Golden State Warriors probably were not thinking of paying homage to Kobe Bryant in the first half of Saturday night’s game against the Toronto Raptors, but in any case, the defending NBA champions just dropped 81 points over the course of the contest’s first two quarters. It’s the most points in a half for any team in the NBA this season.

To put that into perspective, 81 points are just 17 fewer than the Sacramento Kings’ season average of 98.0 points per game.

It was a total effort (as usual) for the Warriors during the first half. Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson led the way for his team by erupting for 20 points just before halftime. Kevin Durant, meanwhile, chipped in 15 markers, while Swiss Knife forward Draymond Green added 12 points over that stretch.

The Warriors set the tone right out of the gate when they racked up a dizzying total of 43 points in the first quarter. The scoring barrage continued into the second period, as the Warriors opened up the quarter with a crippling scoring run, per Tim Bontemps of The Washington Post.

It’s not only the Warriors’ ability to score so many points over a short period of time that was amazing in the first half. Their efficiency in capitalizing on every possession was also otherworldly, as perfectly encapsulated by this tweet from Anthony Slate of The Athletic.

The Warriors are always going to be the Warriors and games (or halves) like this just reinforce their image as one of deadliest scoring teams in league history.
