Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob is still optimistic about his team despite the recent wave of injuries that have plagued them. In six games, dating back to Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals, the Warriors have lost Kevin Durant to a torn Achilles, Klay Thompson to a torn ACL, and Stephen Curry to a broken left hand — along with the slew of short-term injuries to Kevon Looney, Willie Cauley-Stein, Alec Burks, and Alen Smailagic for the bulk of the preseason.

Still, Lacob isn't going to be all doom-and-gloom about this:

“I’m just telling you that the bottom line is I’m not negative and I’m not going to get negative,” Lacob said outside of the Warriors locker room late Wednesday, according to Tim Kawakami of The Athletic. “I’m an optimist and we’re building something. You’re always looking short term and you’re looking intermediate term and you’re looking long term.

“And I think we’ve got a lot of good young players in place. Potentially, there’s a silver lining in all of this, who knows? And I’m very optimistic about our future. Very optimistic about our future. I think we’re going to be there at some point. Can’t say when. We’ve obviously got a lot of injuries now, but we’re going to be there.”

Besides Draymond Green and D'Angelo Russell, the roster is currently starless, full of rookies and role players who have yet to establish their place in the rotation. Yet Lacob isn't seeing this project as a dumpster season before reloading for 2020-21:

“I don’t look at it that way,” said Lacob. “I look at it (as) we have a job to do, Bob (Myers) does, all of us, to build something for the long term. And sometimes you can’t just think what’s in front of you the next week. You have to think about the next months and even year or two. Have to.

“That’s what we have done. I think that we’re going to be good over the long run.”

The Warriors' best plan is to develop their young players and scrap this season altogether, as there is not much good that can come with two major stars on the shelf and a dilapidated roster. Golden State is just 1-3 on this young season, with three blowout losses to their name, including a 121-110 loss to the Phoenix Suns that wasn't as close as the final score indicates.
