The Golden State Warriors enter the 2025 offseason with plenty of questions to answer. After losing in the second round to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the pressure is on general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. to find a way to upgrade the roster this summer. Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler will remain the cornerpieces of Steve Kerr's lineup, but the Warriors expect to make moves to bring in other weapons.
If they do decide to make a bigger move, the name to watch is Jonathan Kuminga. The 22-year-old forward played better as the playoffs went on, trying to fill Curry's shoes after Golden State's star went out with injury. His performance has him in the middle of many mock trades that net the Warriors another star, including their potential package for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
However, that might not be the direction that Golden State decides to head in. Dunleavy Jr. said that he doesn't want to fully sacrifice the future for the present, according to ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk.
“Mike Dunleavy Jr. says any move, especially if a big one for a star, will be done with thought of how much better it will make them,” Youngmisuk said. “He’s not against mortgaging future if it’s right move. He doesn’t want to be caught if there’s a catastrophic injury with no future pieces either.”

Kerr and the team's stars will have input on who they target this summer. It might not be Antetokounmpo, but the Warriors' targets are either a versatile wing or a center. This year's free agency class is shallow, but a variety of players could be available on the trade market.
One potential fit that keeps coming up is Jarrett Allen. The Cleveland Cavaliers center could be on the move after an underwhelming postseason. Cleveland needs to make a change to get over the hump while Golden State needs an interior presence.
A trade for Allen wouldn't be cheap for the Warriors. However, Dunleavy Jr. is hesitant to rush into anything. Butler, Curry, and Green are over 35 years old. As much as it hurts, Golden State needs to think about their future without their star trio.
If nothing enticing becomes available, the team still has Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski to build around.
