Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball made NBA history against the Milwaukee Bucks by becoming the youngest player ever to record a triple-double. However, the rookie had a surprising reaction to his accomplishment, saying he doesn’t care about the record.
Lakers coach Luke Walton praised his young point guard’s apathy toward his personal milestone and his focus on the more important goal, which is winning.
Walton on Ball’s reaction to his triple-double. “What’s great about him is he doesn’t care.” Cares on about getting the win, Walton says.

While it may be a bit cliche at this point to hear a player say he cares more about winning than personal statistics and accomplishments, it seems genuine and sincere with Lonzo Ball given the way he plays on the court.
In part because he’s not the most talented scorer, Ball is more than willing to share the ball with his Lakers teammates whenever he gets the chance. He also rebounds, defends, and does just about anything the team needs him to do to win.
It’s that team-first mentality that helped make Lonzo Ball one of the top prospects in this year’s draft despite his shortcomings as a scorer. Luke Walton and the Lakers certainly value that about Ball, who figures to be the franchise’s leader moving forward because of his desire to win above triple-doubles or other personal stats.
