A lot of people from in and around the NBA have chimed in on the incident involving Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and Isaiah Stewart of the Detroit Pistons. LeBron got ejected for just the second time in his career for a supposed inadvertent blow to Stewart's head that left the youngster's face all covered in blood.
Lakers big man Dwight Howard also has a few things to say about the incident. The 35-year-old veteran called out Stewart for his actions against LeBron but at the same time, Howard explained why he understands why Stewart did what he did:
“Tempers can flare in the NBA,” Howard told Tyler R. Tynes of GQ. “The young fella got hit in the mouth and started bleeding. In his defense, you gotta stand up for yourself. Now, was it the right time and place to do that? No. But you can’t tell somebody how to react in a moment like that.”
Howard himself is not the type to back down from confrontations and he too has been involved in his fair share of fights throughout his career. As such, he admits to having a bit of empathy for Stewart:
“Now, he also did a lot. He was enraged and upset. I can’t say what he did was right, but I do understand it,” Howard added. “Somebody hit me in my mouth and made me bleed? I’d be pissed off too. A little pride and ego probably kicked in too: you in front of 20,000 people, you bleeding from ya lip and ya eye, you don’t ever want to look like that. I get most of why his reaction was the way it was.”
Be that as it may, Stewart has still been heavily criticized for his repeated attempts to lunge at LeBron. There's no denying that he didn't deserve to get hit like that by LeBron, but at the end of the day, he still set a wrong example for the kids watching at home.
