It’s fair to say that it was during his stint with the Miami Heat that LeBron James started to become the complete player that he is today. Prior to his arrival in South Beach, James never won an NBA title. With the Heat, he took home two rings.

As someone who has coached James for four seasons in Miami, Erik Spoelstra is among the few people who commands undivided attention when he talks about managing a superstar like a LeBron James. In fact, he has already imparted some tips on how to handle James to Luke Walton, who is tasked to lead a reconfigured Los Angeles Lakers squad from the bench.

Following his tête-à-tête with Luke Walton, Erik Spoelstra was asked about the latter’s capacity to lead a team with a shiny new superstar toy, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

“I think Luke is the right guy at this time. And Luke is comfortable with that entire environment. He grew up with the Lakers as a player with a team that was in a fishbowl. Golden State he’s used to that kind of environment and last year coaching the Lakers, that’s his comfort zone. I think he’s be just fine.”

Indeed, Walton is someone who is very familiar with how things work in Los Angeles. He’s been with the team through its highs and lows, as he was with the Lakers units that won two NBA championships in 2009 and 2010 and the ones that missed the playoffs in 2005 and lost on the grand stage in 2008.
