Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel believes LeBron James deserves to win the NBA's Most Valuable Player for the 2019-20 season.

“Nobody impacts winning more than LeBron James,” Vogel said in a conference with members of the media on Saturday. “I do believe that he should be MVP this year. I hope those awards go to our two players. That's not to take anything away from some of the other candidates.”

Before the season was suspended, James was having an MVP caliber season for the Lakers, as he was leading the league in assists with 10.6 a game while averaging 25.7 points and 7.9 rebounds. Furthermore, the 35-year-old was playing some of the best defense he had played in years.

However, when the season resumes July 30, James will not get an opportunity to improve his MVP odds. Shams Charania of The Athletic recently reported that the yearly NBA awards would be voted on for play leading up to March 11, meaning the eight regular-season games that'll be played in Orlando will not have any impact on the yearly awards.

With that being said, the MVP race seems to have come down to James and the Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo. Both players played each other in the final week before the hiatus, with James having a better performance.

Nevertheless, if James does win the award, he'll tie Michael Jordan and Bill Russell for second-most MVPs of all-time. For Antetokounmpo, winning the MVP would mean he'll be the recipient of back-to-back awards, becoming the first player since Stephen Curry to accomplish that feat.
