This frustrating Los Angeles Lakers season has taken a toll on the organization, the fans and even former players. That frustration is perhaps what prompted Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to recently criticize superstar LeBron James for actions that are “beneath him” and for “standing on both sides of the fence.”

James has drawn the ire of Abdul-Jabbar multiple times this season, once for posting a controversial meme about the COVID-19 virus and another time for celebrating a clutch 3-pointer with a dance made famous by former NBA player Sam Cassell. Perhaps given some time to reflect on his words, Abdul-Jabbar tweeted an apology to James, then took it further with a heartfelt apology to the Lakers superstar during a radio appearance on Monday, as reported by SirusXM Radio:

Abdul-Jabbar noted that he has been in the media since he was in high school, which is a long time for someone to be in the public eye. The Lakers legend admitted that he “sometimes doesn't get it right,” with his criticism of LeBron James being one of those times.

The six-time NBA champion went on to say that while he and James may not always see eye-to-eye, he has “tremendous respect” for The King and wanted to “wholeheartedly apologize” to him.

It's great to see, not only for Lakers Nation, who desperately needs some good news with the team fading fast in the standings, but also for the NBA community as a whole.

Abdul-Jabbar and James may butt heads at times, but it's clear that the two have a great deal of respect for each other.
