The Los Angeles Lakers' interest in Dwight Howard might not be as significant as others perceive, at least at this point.
According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, the team's inquiry about Howard is more “due diligence,” noting that it still very early in their decision making process.

According to recent reports, the Lakers and Howard have a mutual interest in a reunion. In fact, Howard is reportedly excited over the prospect of teaming up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis in Tinseltown.

The Lakers have already received permission from the Memphis Grizzlies to speak with Howard, so it shouldn't be long before the team makes a decision whether or not they will pursue the three-time Defensive Player of the Year.
Howard, who was traded by the Washington Wizards to the Grizzlies this offseason, still has two years left on his contract. The Lakers can acquire him via trade or if Memphis decides to a buyout or to waive him.
Howard has career averages of 17.4 points, 12.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.0 blocks per game. Unfortunately, his career has been marred with injuries. He played in only nine games for the Wizards last season after having to sit out due to a glute injury.
