Shaq is one of the funniest characters you'll ever see on TV. He's also one of the nicest and most generous personalities out there as the Los Angeles Lakers icon has shown on more than a few occasions how he has a genuine desire to help others. As it turns out, however, not even the great Shaquille O'Neal is immune to mental health issues.

On a recent guesting on the Pivot Podcast, Shaq got brutally honest about one of the darkest periods in his life. This was right after his divorce from his now-ex-wife Shaunie Nelson. O'Neal revealed how difficult it got for him:

“I had the perfect situation,” he said (h/t Jonathan Sherman of Lakers Daily). “Wife was finer than a mug, kept giving me babies, still finer than a mug. I had it all, and I don’t make excuses. I know I messed up. When I didn’t have that…I was lost. 76,000 square-foot house by yourself, lost. … You start to feel it.”

Shaq married Shaunie in 2002. Five years later, the Lakers legend filed for divorce. The couple got back together to try and fix their marriage but unfortunately, it didn't work out. In 2009, it was Shaunie who filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. They have four children together.

This was a long time ago but it is clear that these events still weigh heavily on the Lakers icon.
