As you can see, Ben Golliver of the Washington Post shared the image of the Lakers’ new superstar big man during his introductory press conference with the team. As you’ll note, Davis is not wearing his trademark number 23 jersey with the Lakers, though the immediate reporting had been that LeBron James, Davis’ new teammate, had been willing to offer that number to the big man.
The Lakers, apparently, quashed that idea due to “production issues.”
Now, we see Davis with a new number for the first time in his career, and he opted for No. 3 due to that being his elementary school number.
Article Continues BelowWith the entirety of the Lakers’ young core shipped out in order to acquire Davis (as well as some much-needed cap space), the Lakers roster is loaded with veteran talent around Davis and James including Danny Green, Avery Bradley, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and others.
Though they do not control their draft pick for nearly a decade, the Lakers are clear winners in this deal due to the talent and production of Davis – who is still only 26 years old.
Davis, a six-time All-Star, already has a Hall of Fame probability of 76.8 percent per Basketball Reference due to some staggering career per-game numbers: 23.7 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.4 blocks, 2.1 assists, and 1.4 steals.
Combine that with a career 27.4 player efficiency rating, 72 win shares, and a 58.5 true shooting percentage and you can see why Davis required a king’s ransom via trade.
