Anthony Davis has been rumored to be on the move for months, but the New Orleans Pelicans finally pulled the trigger on a trade that will send him to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers acquired Davis in exchange for Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and a plethora of first-round picks.
While the Lakers will end up getting Davis, there was another team thinking about pulling the trigger on a deal for him. That's right, and it wasn't even the Boston Celtics.
According to a report from Mike Singer of the Denver Post, the Denver Nuggets were considering trading for Davis, but ended up deciding against it because of the price and the possibility of him leaving after just one season.

#Nuggets had reason to believe that Anthony Davis didn't want to be in Denver beyond next season. That, plus the Pelicans' asking price was too high. https://t.co/CbbrZqGcaD

Denver would have been a very intriguing landing spot for Davis. The Nuggets already have one of the league's top big men in Nikola Jokic and adding Davis would have given them one of the best front-court duos that the NBA has ever seen. It is likely that the franchise would have had to give up names like Jamal Murray and Gary Harris in a package to get that deal done.
Instead, the Lakers will put a lineup on the court featuring LeBron James and Davis. Rumors have been flying about other stars that L.A. could target to put alongside them.
Some of the names that have come out are Kemba Walker, Kyrie Irving, and Kawhi Leonard. If the Lakers were able to sign one of those three players, they would instantly be a serious contender in the West, especially with the uncertain future of the Golden State Warriors.
All of that being said, the Nuggets are looking to go big this season. They may still be looking at big moves this offseason even without pulling the trigger on a trade for Davis.
