Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant is out for three to five weeks due to a left ankle sprain. He knows that the NBA season is one long haul and cannot afford to go down again.
Morant revealed on Twitter that Kobe Bryant may be the solution to keep his left ankle strong and healthy.
The high-flying star plans to wear high-top Kobe shoes for the rest of his sophomore campaign.
high top kobes the rest of the year .

Morant suffered the injury in the second quarter of their game against the Brooklyn Nets last week. He played just 13 minutes and finished with seven points, two rebounds, and three assists.

While Morant believes the Kobe high-tops will help protect his left ankle, not everyone agrees with his choice, with several fans even debating online.

One fan pointed out how Kobe started the trend of low-cut shoes several years back. A bunch of players followed suit but then suffered gruesome injuries, including the late Black Mamba himself.
Another fan, however, believes that high-tops create a placebo effect, perhaps that's why Morant believes in them. The fan pointed out that the high-top Kobe 9's were the sneakers that Wesley Matthews wore when he tore his Achilles in 2015.
High tops are no more supportive than low tops. All they give is a placebo effect. Lockdown comes from the forefoot and heel. Kobe 9 Elite was a high top that came out the season after Kobe tore his Achilles. Wes Matthews tore his wearing that shoe that year.

Another fan went into detail on the root of foot injuries, which put a roadblock on Morant's second season. He said it's the “heel lock and forefoot stability” that protect players from suffering these types of injuries.
All NBA players tape ankles so hi vs low debate is moot. Like my man said it’s the heel lock and forefoot stability that prevent this stuff. Tennis players have as much risk of rolling ankles and they all use lows (although some like Andy Murray use Steph-like ankle braces)

It's definitely an interesting debate that athletes talk about regularly. Whatever Ja Morant decides to do, he can only hope that he'll stay healthy for the rest of the season and build on the momentum from his impressive rookie stint.
