Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant is expected to miss a decent amount of time as he recovers from a Grade 2 ankle sprain. Morant suffered the ankle injury on Monday against the Brooklyn Nets.
While the play in which Morant injured himself did appear scary at first, the Grizzlies' floor general is not expected to miss more than 3-5 weeks which could possibly put him back in action by late January or early February.
Head coach Taylor Jenkins echoed off on the fact that Morant's injury is a lot better than it appeared at first:
Coach Jenkins tells @evan_b that the Ja Morant diagnosis that “it could’ve been a lot worse…it wasn’t something that was going to need surgery…” Coach says his spirits and energy are up

Morant had gotten off to a spectacular start for the season prior to the injury. The 2020 Rookie of the Year averaged 26.3 points and 6.3 assists through three games. Before exiting the game against Brooklyn on Monday, Morant only registered seven points, three assists, and two rebounds through 12 minutes of play.
After attempting to block Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot's shot, Morant landed awkwardly on Luwawu-Cabarrot's foot, forcing Morant to eventually be wheeled off the court. The Grizzlies went on to win 116-111 over the Nets in overtime.
Morant is coming off a phenomenal 2019-20 rookie season in which he averaged 17.8 points, 7.3 assists, and 3.9 rebounds as he nearly spearheaded the Grizzlies into the playoff picture. Exactly who will take over the bulk of the offensive workload for the Grizzlies during his absence will be a toss-up.
For now, the Grizzlies have to focus on taking it one game at a time. That starts with the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. The Celtics are currently 2-2 and looking to capitalize on their latest win against the Indiana Pacers.
