It was a bit of a surprise that the Memphis Grizzlies were unable to move point guard Mike Conley prior to last February's trade deadline, especially considering how the team were able to pull the trigger on a deal that sent Marc Gasol to the Toronto Raptors.

Conley recently reminisced on his grueling experience as the deadline approached, admitting that he simply could not get any sleep the night before the actual trade deadline.

“Like somebody’s going to call me to say, ‘Oh, you’ve just been traded,’ at 4 in the morning,” he said, via Bleacher Report's Jonathan Abrams. “I couldn’t control that and I still couldn’t turn my mind off.”

The Grizzlies were adamant that it was time to move on from the Gasol-Conley era, and that a full rebuild was the way to go. However, for some reason, they were not able to find a suitable partner for a potential Conley trade deal, which resulted in a half-baked execution of their grand plan.

Nonetheless, there is no turning back for Memphis now. It seems that the botched Conley deal is all but certain to push through this summer, as the 31-year-old veteran does not appear to figure in the organization's long-term plans any longer.

Conley himself has already admitted that he has no intentions of sticking around for the rebuild, and that at this point in his career, winning now has become his number one priority. If Memphis is unable to present him with such an opportunity, then a move away from the franchise appears to be inevitable.
