Following Thursday night's on-court scuffle with Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell, Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard Dillon Brooks has now been suspended.
In a statement released by the NBA, it was announced that Brooks will be suspended for one game. Mitchell has also been punished, receiving a $20,000 fine.
Per the official release:
“Memphis Grizzlies guard-forward Dillon Brooks has been suspended one game without pay and Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Donovan Mitchell has been fined $20,000 for their roles in an on-court altercation it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.”
“After missing a layup and falling to the floor, Brooks initiated the altercation by striking Mitchell in the groin area in an unsportsmanlike manner. Mitchell then escalated the situation by throwing the game ball at and pushing Brooks, after which both players continued to physically engage with one another.”
“Brooks was assessed a flagrant foul 2 and ejected, and Mitchell was given a technical foul and ejected.”

Following the ejection of both Brooks and Mitchell, the Cavaliers ultimately came away with the victory. They won the contest by a score of 128-113.
With Dillon Brooks now sidelined for the Grizzlies next, they will be without him as they take on Toronto Raptors on Sunday.
Based on the incident that occurred, many believed that Brooks could be in for a longer suspension. But with missing just one game, he will likely be back in action on Tuesday when the Grizzlies take on the Chicago Bulls.
The Grizzlies now find themselves at 32-20 on the season and second in the West.
