Minnesota Timberwolves guard Derrick Rose reached 30 years of age on Thursday. To honor his birthday, the NBA's social media team created a tribute video that highlights some of the outstanding plays Rose has made over the course of his career in the league. After seeing this tribute video, Lakers superstar LeBron James noted that his friend and former teammate is “a flat out monster.”

Though they play for different teams now, LeBron James (Lakers) and Derrick Rose (Wolves) wore the Wine and Gold of the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2017-18 NBA season. Sadly, though, lingering injury concerns hampered much of Rose's time on the court with James.

There was a time when Rose and James were at or near the same level of popularity. With Rose leading the charge, the Chicago Bulls finished the 2010-11 season with a 62–20 overall record, marking the team's first 60-plus win season since the 1997-98 campaign. Rose recorded 2,000 points and 600 assists in that season. The only other players to achieve that feat in a single season are named Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

Rose signed with the Timberwolves on March 8, 2018. In doing so, he reunited with several of his former Bulls teammates, as well as head coach Tom Thibodeau.

With the Jimmy Butler saga raging on for the Timberwolves, Rose has stepped into a starting shooting guard role for the preseason. The three-time All-Star and former league MVP logged 21 minutes in Minnesota's preseason opener against the Golden State Warriors, scoring 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field (1-of-3 from beyond the arc), one assist, and two steals.

Rose and the Timberwolves will be back in action on Friday night, when they'll welcome the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Target Center. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. EST.
