Throughout his eight-year NBA career so far, Taj Gibson has shown that he is a hard worker inside the paint and relentless on the boards. He has established himself as a blue-collar worker on the court, and is not afraid to go up against heftier and stronger big men in the league today.

Outside of it though, he is way different, and even proved recently that he has a big heart.

The newly-acquired Minnesota Timberwolves forward donated $20,000 to the family of a victim of a shootout in Brooklyn earlier this month. They set up a GoFundMe page for Chynna Battle, and Gibson did not hesitate to give that amount to the young daughter of the slain woman. The 21-year-old victim was apparently shot by two gunmen in a shootout, but wasn't the intended target, according to a piece made by The New York Daily News.

Gibson is a Brooklyn-native and has continued to help some communities in his hometown despite playing for teams representing other cities. His latest donation is the bulk of the $24,000 the fund currently has, which has a goal to reach $6,000 more in the next week.

As the saying goes, do not judge a book by its cover, and Gibson may be the perfect example of this, as his rugged and tough image on the court is the complete opposite of how he is when he’s not competing. More importantly, it also goes to show that he is always looking after his hometown, even if he will be playing for Minnesota starting next season.
