Less than a week after admitting he had never heard of Alex Rodriguez, Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards hilariously had his bubble burst when told his newly acquired info on the franchise owner was already out of date. Sitting down for an interview with Tyler Tynes of GQ Sports, Edwards proudly told the reporter that not only did he now know who A-Rod was, but that he also was aware that the new owner of the Timberwolves was dating Jennifer Lopez.
It's a good thing Edwards was sitting down when Tynes had to break the bad news to him:
Edwards: âThey told me heâs a Hall of Famer. Somebody told me heâs like the Michael Jordan of baseball. I feel like thatâs a stretch.â
Tanes: âOh. You didnât watch any games or highlights to verify that with your own eyes?â
Edwards: âNah, I ainât watch none, nah. I know he date J-Lo [Jennifer Lopez], though!â
Tanes: âHe does not.â
Edwards: âWhat?â
Tanes: âHe used to date J-Lo, but they just broke up.â
Edwards: âDamn!â
Tanes: You look like youâre disappointed.â
Edwards: âYeah, I am.â
Tanes: âAny reason?â
Edwards: âHe gonna be my owner, I want him to be happy.â
Tanes: âYou think heâs gonna be happier with J-Lo?â
Edwards: âYeah!!â
Tanes: âWhen you put it that wayâŚ.that doesnât seem wrong.â
Edwards: âYeah! Like, for sure!!â
Even if his information may not entirely be up to speed, it's hard to deny that Edwards is broadly correct in his assessment of Rodriguez both on and off the field.
Article Continues BelowNot only is the former American League MVP decidedly not the Michael Jordan of baseball â and shame on the person who made that comparison â but he would almost assuredly be happier with J-Lo in his life. While we can't claim to know to know the couple, it's undeniable that A-Rod's endless array of corny and overdone Instagram posts celebrating the two's relationship was a ready source of fun.
Actually, on second thought, maybe it's us who would be happier with the former first couple of baseball back in our lives.
Either way, we share your disappointment, Mr. Edwards.
