Minnesota Timberwolves rookie and top overall pick Anthony Edwards has been fantastic on the court to start his career, and the young guard has done his part by helping others as well.

Edwards, former Georgia Bulldog star, reached out to 12-year-old Taedan Johnson after he lost his mother, grandmother, and sister in a fire on Jan. 27.

Georgia graduate Zac Hendrix, who is friends with one of Edwards' old teammates, connected with Edwards and he provided some much-needed encouragement in a tough time for the young kid from Athens.

“It was incredible,” Hendrix said, via Marc Weiszer in the Athens Banner-Herald. “He just said, ‘Hey, Taeden, look man, I lost my mother, I also lost my grandmother at a young age, and look where I’m at now. Never give up. Always give 110 percent to where you eventually want to go. Just follow your dreams and nothing will stop you from doing that.'”

Edwards lost his mother and grandmother in a span of eight months, both to cancer, when he was just an eighth-grader, so he has been in Taedan's shoes. Edwards also said he would stay in touch with Johnson during this difficult time, and Johnson said he was going to change his number to No. 5 in honor of Edwards who sported five at Georgia.

Hendrix started a GoFundMe for Johnson and so far has collected over $200,000 for the 12-year-old and has taken him under his wing.

Anthony Edwards is having a good first year in the NBA, and stories like this go to show that these star athletes love to do their part in the community as well.
