Thanks in large part to the outstanding effort put up by Karl-Anthony Towns, the Minnesota Timberwolves managed to walk away from Sunday's matchup against the Miami Heat with a 113-104 victory. Thanks to his big performance, Towns accomplished something not done since Kevin Garnett was with the Timberwolves in 2005:

Towns has been on a tear as of late. He logged 37 minutes in Sunday night's game, racking up 34 points on 12-of-24 shooting from the field (3-of-6 from beyond the arc), 18 rebounds, seven assists, six blocks and three steals.

“I just wanted to do my part to raise the level of intensity on defense,” Towns said during Sunday's postgame media availability.

Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra had high praise for Towns' stat line, noting the timeliness of his contributions.

“The stat line was very impressive by itself,” Spoelstra told ESPN after Sunday's matchup. “But the impact of the timeliness of his plays … every time it seemed we got it to six, he had a big bucket or a rebound or something that kept their momentum going.”

According to ESPN, Towns became the first player to post such a stat line since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who had 35 points, 19 rebounds, nine assists and eight blocks for the Los Angeles Lakers against Phoenix on Nov. 14, 1975:

In Friday's 123-120 overtime loss to the Atlanta Hawks, Towns notched 31 points, 19 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and one steal in 43 minutes of action.

Towns and the Timberwolves (17-19 and fifth in the Northwest Division standings) will be back in action on Monday night, as they're scheduled to face the New Orleans Pelicans. Tip-off inside the Smoothie King Center is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
