Minnesota Timberwolves Taj Gibson called the reported Instagram snafu of “liking” some comments critical of coach Tom Thibodeau “fake news,” noting it wasn't him or any of his associates running the account:
“Yeah, man. It's just crazy. Like I'm not really a social media kinda guy or believe anything. I love my teammates, I love my coach. So those things don't show for me at all,” said Gibson, according to Dane Moore of ESPN 1500. “For people to believe that was just really disappointing. Just gotta move forward. I got a call from Thibs and I was just like, ‘C'mon coach, you know my character better than that.' I'm not an analytic guy, I don't look at things like that. I just love my teammates and don't worry about stuff like that.”
Asked if it was him running the account, Gibson wasn't even aware he had one in his name:

But I wasn't aware of it at all,” said Gibson, claiming his innocence. “Yeah, I wasn't even aware of my Instagram. I was worried about a funeral. I didn't even watch the game. I got the call and it was just a little bit of disbelief. But things happened, just gotta move forward. But like I said before, its fake news… (laughing) I love my teammates, I love Minnesota. Just gotta move forward.”
Minnesota is coming off four straight losses to Western Conference opponents after enjoying massive success shortly after Jimmy Butler was traded, something that put Thibodeau in the hot seat in the eyes of fans and local media.
When posed with the potential that his social media account was hacked, Gibson was noncommittal to an answer:
“You can say whatever you wanna say,” he said. “I'm not that kinda guy. I'm a straight forward kinda guy. l'm not gonna throw any slick shots at anybody. I love my teammates.”
All in all, Gibson's record speaks for itself, as he has never been known to be a social media guy or to dart subtle shots at his teammates. It sure seems like it's heavily unlikely that it was Gibson behind those comments.
