The discussion on who the best scorer in the NBA is filled with different answers as everyone has their own personal preference. Ahead of the All-Star game, The Athletic's Fred Katz, Ben Standig, and David Aldridge recently questioned people connected to the NBA on who they believe is the purest scorer, with Kevin Durant headlining the leaders.
Altogether, the survey involved 30 people who are connected to the NBA one way or another. Among the players mentioned in the survey, Durant led the way with 20 first-place votes and he received 266 points overall to be the consensus No. 1 scorer in the NBA.
Behind Durant, James Harden got four first-place votes and 166 total points to make him the second-best scorer in the league. Harden was followed by Stephen Curry, who received three first-place votes and 114 total points. Bradley Beal, who is starting in the All-Star game for the first time in his career, would slot in behind Curry as he earned two first-place votes and 98 total points.
The other two players who would round out the top six in the survey were Kyrie Irving (one first-place vote, 29 total points) and Damian Lillard (66 total points). Seeing three players from the Brooklyn Nets in the top six goes to show how dangerous they can be come playoff time.
Even after his Achilles injury, Durant continues to show that he's one of the most prolific scorers the NBA has ever seen. Being able to handle the ball and score at will with his size is uncanny. Despite being able to make an argument for multiple players, everyone believes Durant and Harden are by far the best pure scorers in the NBA still.
