The Boston Celtics are reportedly not a top target for New Orleans Pelicans superstar big man Anthony Davis, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
The Celtics would have to trade star point guard Kyrie Irving to acquire Anthony Davis because of the “Rose Rule,” which is named after Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Derrick Rose.
Davis is trying to compete for championships, and if Boston doesn't have Irving on the roster, it defeats the purpose of the Celtics acquiring Davis.

Anthony Davis can become a free agent during the summer of 2020. A team trading for the former No. 1 overall pick this season is taking a big risk since AD can enter the open market in 2020.
If the Lakers were to trade for Davis, though, it is widely assumed The Brow would sign a long-term extension to stay in Los Angeles with LeBron James.
In 41 games this season with the Pelicans, Anthony Davis is putting up monster numbers as usual. The five-time All-Star is averaging 29.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game and shooting 50.8 percent from the field, 32.5 percent from beyond the arc and 81.2 percent from the free-throw line.
New Orleans enters Monday with a record of 22-28. The Pelicans have won only one playoff series since Davis arrived to The Big Easy back in 2012.
