The New Orleans Pelicans reportedly had no intent to trade superstar power forward Anthony Davis before the offseason, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Los Angeles Lakers were aggressively trying to acquire Davis at the February trade deadline and had nine of its 15 players on the roster in trade discussions.

Here is what we do know. The Lakers made several aggressive offers to New Orleans involving all of their core young players of Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart. The Pelicans had no intent to trade Davis before the offseason, however, especially not to the Lakers, league sources said. The NBA is a business, however, and these conversations involving the Lakers’ talented young core was warranted, whether they were taken personally or not.

Davis can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020. It is widely believed he wants to play with LeBron James on the Lakers.

The Boston Celtics can get involved in the Davis sweepstakes this summer once star point guard Kyrie Irving declines his 2019-20 player option. Boston wasn't able to acquire Davis this season with Irving on the roster with his current contract because of the “Rose Rule,” which is named after Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Derrick Rose.
