New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis once again did not play Thursday due to injury against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Pelicans lost to the Blazers 132-119. After starting 4-0, they have now lost four straight.
Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry explained to the media after the game why Davis did not play.

Overall, it was the right decision by Gentry and everyone involved, even if Davis tried to talk them into playing him. Right now, all the Pelicans need to focus on is Davis getting healthy and being healthy for the rest of the season, especially during the playoffs.
The team has played very well without Davis the last two games, but New Orleans desperately needs him in order to compete for a playoff spot, and that is what the team is aiming for right now.

It will be interesting to see how long Davis will be out for due to injury. He most likely could play the next game the Pelicans play, but you can understand why they are being cautious with him in this young season.
Because if the injury gets worse, he gets an injury that sits him out for the rest of the year, the team's season is pretty much out the window.
Yes, the Pelicans have been competitive in the games he's missed so far, but Davis is the engine that makes this team go. If the engine is not out there, the team is going to die down. They'll still be competitive, but they will not be up to par with the other teams in the Western Conference.
The Davis injury will be a storyline to follow in this young season.
