Anthony Davis' frustration got the best of him on Wednesday night, and he's now paying the price. The NBA announced on Thursday that the New Orleans Pelicans superstar has been fined $15,000 for directing an obscene gesture towards a fan after his team's 115-109 loss to the Charlotte Hornets at Smoothie King Center.
Per the NBA:
New Orleans #Pelicans F/C Anthony Davis has been fined $15,000 for directing an obscene gesture toward a fan.
The incident took place as Davis was exiting the court area upon conclusion of the Pelicans’ 115-109 loss to Charlotte on April 3 at Smoothie King Center.

Video of the incident surfaced shortly after it took place. Davis, who didn't play in the game, can be seen walking off the court in street clothes before directing a quick middle finger at someone out of camera view.

The normally mild-mannered Davis says the video doesn't tell the whole story of what transpired, and that the fan who he took umbrage with “disrespected me” and “said something I didn't like.”
Andrew Lopez of NOLA.com subsequently reported that Davis was provoked by the fan, who allegedly yelled “F*** you, A.D!” unprompted, eliciting his profane response.
This incident comes in the wake of new interest paid to the actions of fans at NBA games. Both the Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook and the Detroit Pistons' Blake Griffin were subject to racist taunts from opposing fans during road games earlier this season, with the Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves, respectively, eventually taking action against those in question.
Davis, currently sidelined by a back injury, has been under immense scrutiny since requesting a trade from the Pelicans in February, a wish the team failed to honor before the trade deadline.
