Anthony Davis is not too impressed with their defense after the New Orleans Pelicans absorbed a 126-121 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night at the Barclays Center.

Davis said that they need to get better defensively if they want to get out of their current slump. The Pelicans dropped seven of their last nine games, and they looked lost on defense in the opening half against Brooklyn. New Orleans allowed the Nets to score 73 points, and they failed to get out of the deep hole they dug themselves into.

“The whole first half, they did whatever they wanted,” Davis said via ESPN's Ian Begley. “They didn't feel us on the defensive end. We wasn't physical, wasn't talking. They got a lot layups, a lot of open 3s. They shot the ball extremely well in the first half due to our lazy defense.”

The loss spoiled a career night for Anthony Davis. The 25-year-old superstar scored 34 points and grabbed a career-high 26 rebounds. He also posted four assists, three blocks, and a steal. According to ESPN, Davis became the first player to record at least 34 points, 26 rebounds, and three blocks since Elvin Hayes in 1973.

Anthony Davis admitted that everyone, including him, is frustrated with their current situation. The Pelicans currently hold a 17-22 record and are in 14th place in the Western Conference standings. Good thing for them, they are just 4.5 games behind the Los Angeles Lakers, who are currently occupying the eighth spot in the West.

However, it remains to be seen if Davis will finish the season in a Pelicans uniform, especially if they fail to recover from their current slump. Davis could become an unrestricted free agent in 2020. But this early, trade talks about Davis have been swirling around even after Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry insisted that they have no plans to trade him.
