Davis is already the franchise's leader in points with 9,664, and is soon to surpass the 10,000 point mark within the next month.
The New Orleans Pelicans is the only franchise in the NBA that does not have a 10,000 point scorer. The most recent club to finally boast of that feat is the Charlotte Hornets. All-Star guard Kemba Walker finally netted 10,000 points for his career this past Saturday in their road win against the Miami Heat.
Many fans are confused with the history of the Pelicans franchise, since they were once affiliated with the Charlotte Hornets when the franchise moved to the Big Easy in 2002. But since the current Charlotte team, which adopted the Bobcats name from 2004 to 2014, reverted back to their original Hornets moniker, the histories of both franchises were re-written. The entire history of the Pelicans franchise is recognized from when they moved to New Orleans in 2002.
There really shouldn't be anyone else to reach this mark for the Pelicans than Anthony Davis. Davis is unquestionably the face of the franchise. Moreover, he is arguably the best player to ever suit up for this team.
The 25-year old superstar is now on his 7th season with the Pelicans. Davis has suited up for 413 games with New Orleans and is averaging 23.5 points per game, which also leads the franchise. Davis also leads the franchise in several other categories such as rebounds, field goals made, blocks, free-throws, and whole lot more, which is not at all surprising.
New Orleans is having its best start in franchise history since 2010, after they took care of business at home against the L.A. Clippers, 116-109. Davis had another monster outing, dropping 34 points on 11 of 21 shooting. He also tallied 13 rebounds and 5 swats on the night.
Davis will look to lead his team to a 4-0 start as they take on the Brooklyn Nets on Friday. In the process, he also figures to inch closer to making history for the Pelicans.
