New Orleans Pelicans superstar big man Anthony Davis will speak to the local media on Friday for the first time since his trade request.

Davis, who is currently sidelined with a left index finger injury, isn't required to speak to reporters while he's injured, but the All-Star power forward will on Friday.

Anthony Davis has told the Pelicans he will not sign the supermax extension this summer and that he wants out of New Orleans. The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 7. The Pelicans are under no obligation to trade Davis at the trade deadline, and they might be better suited to wait until the offseason so the Boston Celtics can get involved.

The Celtics can't trade for Anthony Davis until Kyrie Irving opts out of his 2019-20 player option because of the “Rose Rule,” which is named after Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Derrick Rose. The Celtics could trade for Davis this season, but then they would have to part ways with Irving.

In 41 games this season, Davis is averaging 29.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per contest while shooting 50.8 percent from the field, 32.5 percent from beyond the arc and 81.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The Pelicans are 23-28 on the season, 12th place in the Western Conference standings. The franchise has won only one postseason series since drafting Anthony Davis with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.
