Throughout his career, DeMarcus Cousins has often been making headlines for the wrong reasons. However, this summer it has been the total opposite, as he's been showing a lot of dedication to improving himself physically by trying to lose weight and be in better shape for next season.
During the NBA Africa Game on Saturday, the New Orleans Pelicans Center participated in it and was noticeably slimmer and leaner.
ESPN's Marc J. Spears caught up with Cousins and had a quick chat with him. He asked him to discuss his new look and what it has done to his game so far. The 6'11” big man admitted that he is in the best shape of his life, and understands that it will make a big difference to his performance starting in October.
"Probably the best I have felt my whole career."

Having been part of a trade back in February that landed him in New Orleans, Cousins was able to appear in 17 games for his team and got a feel for how it is to play under their system.
Although their season ended in disappointment as they once again missed out on the playoffs, that experience may serve as extra motivation for him to do even better in the next campaign. Now that he's more familiar playing alongside his teammates, there will be fewer adjustments to be made, and the familiarization he has with them has the potential to translate to more victories.
Cousins showed that he could co-exist with Anthony Davis in their frontcourt, and their partnership could spell trouble for the rest of the competition. If he can continue playing well with him, and further improve his skill set with his new physique, the sky's the limit for the young Pelicans team, who will look to make a lot of noise in the tough Western Conference come next season.
