The New Orleans Pelicans expect to kickstart efforts in conducting a search for their new general manager next week, according to Scott Kushner of The New Orleans Advocate.

The organization has hired a search firm, which has been parsing out candidates and is expected to provide ownership with a list of five-to-10 names next week. From that point on, the Pelicans will start the interview process and pick their finalists, hoping to find the right person for the job ahead of a trying offseason.

Demps reportedly had a history of a lack of accountability, something that ownership took in consideration before giving him the axe.

New Orleans has a gigantic decision to make this summer, as the pieces they get in return for Davis can be the grand or lackluster future for the next half decade, with ramifications that can be felt even 10 years after his departure.

So far, the Pelicans know they will entertain a sweepstakes race between the Lakers and the Boston Celtics, but other teams are sure to roll the dice on a potential trade — making the right GM all the more important for the franchise moving forward.
