The New Orleans Pelicans scored 149 points Friday night against the Sacramento Kings, setting the new franchise record for most points scored in a single game.
The Pelicans are now 2-0 on the young season. They defeated the Houston Rockets on opening night and are clicking on all cylinders at the moment.

When the Pelicans lost Rajon Rondo and DeMarcus Cousins in free agency over the summer, the pundits were quick to write off the club and many predicted the team wasn't going to be competitive this season. Yes, it's only two games, so the sample size is small, but the Pelicans are playing at a much faster pace with Elfrid Payton at the controls and Julius Randle as Anthony Davis' partner is crime down low.

Head coach Alvin Gentry may finally be getting his players to buy into the run-and-gun system he used with the Phoenix Suns.
Stretch forward Nikola Mirotic is also playing like a different player. In his early days with the Chicago Bulls, Mirotic was very inconsistent with his shot and he used to get bullied on defense. While his defense is still below average, Mirotic appears to have gotten stronger in the offseason and he is showing more awareness on that end of the floor.
If New Orleans can keep this up, all those rumors about Anthony Davis leaving town will disappear.
