Anthony Davis reportedly has no plans to sign an extension this summer no matter where the New Orleans Pelicans end up trading him to, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Davis plans to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020 when he opts out of his 2020-21 player option which is worth $28,751,775.
By entering the open market in the summer of 2020, Davis will be able to make more money.
This could help open up marketplace on a trade for Davis between now and Thursday 3 p.m. deadline, creating stronger offers to Pels. No matter destination, Davis has no plans to sign extension this summer. The plan is signing a new deal in July of 2020, once he opts out. https://t.co/RWqXzaV4va

It is still unclear if the Pelicans are going to trade Davis at the Feb. 7 trade deadline, or wait until the summer. It is widely believed Davis prefers to play for the Los Angeles Lakers, although there are other teams AD wouldn't mind playing for as well.
In 41 games this season for the Pelicans, Davis is averaging 29.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. The former No. 1 overall pick is shooting an efficient 50.8 percent from the field, 32.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 81.2 percent from the free-throw line.
Davis is still sidelined with the left index finger injury he suffered two weeks ago. The superstar told reporters last week should the Pelicans trade him in the summer, he will play for the franchise again this season once he is 100 percent.
