Sometimes, NBA free agency is about timing more than anything else, and it’s possible that the New York Knicks could have potentially signed free agent Dwyane Wade, had they planned a meeting with him this summer.
At this very moment, we would have been imagining Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade suiting up in The Big Apple next season.
Anthony spoke with the New York Daily News on Wednesday, after practice with the U.S. men's national team, and mentioned how the Knicks ‘had a chance’ at signing Wade to a deal, but that they would have had to “pull a rabbit out of a hat.”

Just two days prior to Wade joining the Chicago Bulls, the Knicks and Brandon Jennings agreed to a one-year, $5-million contract. Two days prior to Jennings' signing, the Knicks secured the services of shooting guard Courtney Lee for four years at $48 million to fill the void left by Arron Afflalo.
That covered enough salary to sign Wade, who was seeking a deal around $20 million per year, but wanted a third year on his deal which he couldn’t get from the Heat.
The Knicks, Bucks, Cavs, and Nuggets were reportedly interested in signing Wade, but the recruiting, and the lure of returning home to his native city of Chicago ultimately became the clincher for the former Heat guard.
The Knicks failed to secure Wade, but did manage trade for Derrick Rose, and sign Joakim Noah, Lee, and Jennings, which president Phil Jackson says, reinvigorated Anthony.
